Obituary For Anna Pelas Kidd

Anna P. Kidd, 82 of Raleigh, passed away February 2, 2024.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, Anna and her entire family came to the United States in 1948 and all became citizens.

She graduated from White Plains High School, and Westchester Community College. She joined Burroughs Wellcome in 1964, working in the toxicology department until 1971 when her son Christopher was born. In June 1969 she married Kenneth Kidd when he returned from Vietnam. They were both working at Burroughs Wellcome when the company relocated to Research Triangle Park in 1970.

She spent the next few years as a homemaker, learned to play tennis, was a member of the Raleigh Racquet Club (RRC) for many years and played on many teams. She truly loved all the “girls” she played with. During this time, she was elected President of the Parish Council for the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She was President during the construction of the new church on Lead Mine Road in Raleigh.

She became bored as a housewife and took a position at the NC Legislature in 1982. She was legislative assistant for Senator Harris Blake and Representative John Brown. She retired from the Legislature on January 1, 2013. She loved the time serving the people of North Carolina and everyone she ever met working there. It can be said of Anna, "she never met a person she didn’t like, and she never met a person who didn’t like her.”

Over the past few years she suffered from dementia. It was very draining on her, both mentally and physically.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Nellie Pelas and her sister, Mary. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Kidd; her son, Christopher, both of Raleigh; and her sister, Alice Daly (husband Jack) of New York.

The family would like to express grateful appreciation to the folks at Elsie‘s Place for everything they did for Anna during the past year--in particular, Gina Stavredes.

A viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 6:00-8:00pm with the Prayer Service at 7:00pm at Renaissance Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the building fund at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
