Obituary For Angeline Hornyak
Angeline “Ange” Hornyak , 97, ascended to Heaven peacefully on September 25, 2016. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 17, 1919 to Violet and Joseph Aguiar. Growing up on the Hawaiian Islands and graduating from President Theodore Roosevelt High School provided the foundation from which a great life would be lived. A Pearl Harbor survivor and subsequently an Army Signal Corp employee she was not only a witness of history but was an active participant in our wartime efforts. On January 14, 1943 she married Charles Hornyak, also a Pearl Harbor Survivor and WWII Veteran as a non-commissioned officer of Army Air Corp.
Married for 59 years, Ange was able to travel the world as a wife of career Air Force Veteran. During these travels, friendships were established that endured throughout their lives. They retired to the Florida West Coast where she was able to continue her love of the beach while enjoying a full life with her family, friends, and church.
One immense joy she had was hula dancing. Beginning early in life, she danced the hula that resulted in her teaching and performing for many years. As a believer of volunteering, she spent countless hours visiting nursing home residences and patients of the Bay Pines Veterans Administration Hospital. Ange was a truly amazing person and until the end, those who knew her were blessed by her kindness, sweetness and giving nature. She relocated to Raleigh to be close to family where the past 10 years was spent being active with friends, creating crafts and enjoying nature; especially the sunshine and warm breezes.
Her favorite bible verse was Numbers 6: 24-26 : ”May the Lord bless you and keep you; May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace”
Ange was preceded in death by her parents, brother Arthur Aguiar and beloved husband Charles Hornyak. She is survived by her son, Charles Hornyak, daughter Darlene Ann Lee and daughter Donna Violet Leary and husband Martin Leary, granddaughter Deniell Hornyak, daughter in law Anne Leary and niece Susan Lyon.
The family would like to thank all who shared in Ange’s life. Specifically her dear friends Sue Talbot and Cherise Lynch. Them along with the family pets of Woodrow, Gus and Bonney; ensured her last years were full of love.
