Obituary For Aldona U. Christ

Aldona Christ, 95, of Raleigh, NC, and formerly of Toms River, NJ passed away on May 31, 2013 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC of heart-related complications.

She was born on January 26, 1918 in Newark, NJ and was preceded in death by her husband Charles Christ. Aldona was a very active individual ââ?¬â?? compared to those of any age. She was an active member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Francis of Assisi, where she knitted hats, scarves, and prayer shawls and donated them to those in need. She regularly worked out at the Rex Wellness Center, where she took aerobics classes and exercised her body and mind. She had a vibrant and memorable personality that matched her red hair.

Aldona loved to dance all her life. For many years, she was a member of the Calendar Girls, a New Jersey tap dance group. As a member of the Lynn Lake Senior Club in Raleigh, she participated in several activities and competitions. Her most memorable moment may have been a first-place award given to her last November by Miss North Carolina for her ââ?¬Å?Seniors KNOW They Can Danceââ?¬Â? performance. She was active right to the end, putting on a ââ?¬Å?Let Your Smile Be Your Umbrellaââ?¬Â? skit at the Lynn Lake end-of-year party on May 28. She drove home that afternoon, became ill that evening, and never recovered.

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Paradise and spouse Joseph, her grandchildren Amy and Eric and their spouses, and great-grandchildren Reese, Tate, and Peter.

The funeral will be held on Friday, June 7, at 11:00 am, at the St. Francis of Assisi St. Mary of the Angels Chapel, 11401 Leesville Rd, Raleigh, NC 27613. A reception will follow to celebrate Aldonas fulfilled life. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, where she will join her husband.

Memorial donations may be sent to St. Francis of Assisi Church in Aldonas name.

Aldona ("My Big Sister"), I miss you so much! Mike and I went to the Museum of History today for the last Pine Cone concert of the season and the couple performing was really good and I know you would have enjoyed their storytelling along with their music. Then walked through a couple of new exhibits and thought of you. I just listened to some of your voice messages left on my phone and they made me smile. One was when your newest great-grandson was born and Friday we got to meet him. You really looked good at the Senior show with your "Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella" number and I guess God wanted you to keep dancing in heaven and called you home. I shall always cherish our friendship. You taught me so much about living life to the fullest and you will continue to be my inspiration. I'm honored to have had you call me "my little sister"! I am so sorry for your loss. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3,4 states "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death. Hope these words give you a new hope.

Feisty-Sassy-Tenacious-Determined and such a dear soul!!! I am a neighbor of Aldona's and loved her. My favorite memory of her is when she came to my apartment last new year's eve for a party and she had on a mini skirt and was too too cute. I saw her every morning when she would go put for her morning workout and we would spar back and forth with wisecracks.....she started my day with laughter. I miss her already and she was a gift to me!!

Aldona - we are going to miss you so,so much. Your joy of life, your smile and your everlasting youth brought happiness to all who know you. You taught us that aging does not mean growing old. I bet you are already busy teaching St Peter how to zumba.

It was the pleasure of the band to watch you at our dances over the years. How much you enjoyed to dance and display your happiness with just being alive. Your friends at St Michael were shocked when informed of your death. May you dance among the many rooms of your Lord. Rest in Peace

My dear Aldona, You were the grandma I didn't have, gave me advice and I could give you moments of fun. So glad our paths crossed and I was blessed with your friendship. I will miss you every day of my life, and in the mean time I know you will be singing, dancing and having fun in Heaven. All my love, Carolina.
