Robert (Bob) Kneipp went to his eternal rest in our Lord's loving arms on July 5, 2020. He was born to Fred and Nevella Kneipp, in Shreveport, LA on November 10, 1945. His siblings include Johnette K. (Mathis), DeWayne (Bubba) Kneipp, and George Kniepp (deceased). He left a legacy of love of family and friends, which included a special close relationship with all his nieces and nephews.

In his teen years, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. In his 20s he volunteered his service to our country. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps, where he served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.

In 1974, Bob married the love of his life, Karen Kneipp, and they had 45 wonderful years together. The last 25 years they made their home in Raleigh.

Bob’s lifelong career was in commercial construction, culminating in the establishment of K and B Construction Company. He was always a builder and in retirement, you could find him in the garage working on his boat or tinkering with smaller projects.

Friendships were a very important part of his life, some lasting through the years from childhood. Bob enjoyed meals with friends and always gave a meaningful blessing beforehand which included “it has been a gorgeous day”.

Bob taught many children and adults a variety of games. He also played a mean Rummy Cube. He especially enjoyed card games and was known to be a “creative scorekeeper” and for that reason was relieved of that job. His hobbies included tent camping in the mountains and sharing his love of nature. Most days he could be found with a samurai Sudoku puzzle ready to tackle. His most recent endeavor included a valiant attempt at learning the guitar. You could always find him sitting on the porch, enjoying the birds, the deer and telling tall tales.

Bob came late to his faith, but became a devout Roman Catholic. His favorite contribution was with the Gabriel Society, where he was known as the “baby bed man,” helping to assemble and deliver baby beds to single mothers in need.

Bob’s last years were a gift, made possible by his true grit, Karen’s devoted attention, and the amazing support and dedication of the Duke University medical staff. He left a lasting memory of an easygoing, gentle and loving soul. Humor was his gift to everyone that knew him. His smile and the sound of his laughter will live on in our hearts.

On July 18, 2020 there will be a private interment ceremony, with military honors, to place his ashes in the St Luke the Evangelist Columbarium-outdoors.
