Mr. John Michael (Mike) Chapman, 74, of Raleigh, North Carolina peacefully passed away after a long battle with primary progressive aphasia on September 19, 2020. He was the son of the late William “Chappy” Chapman and Opal Brogdon Chapman. Mike was born January 4, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was married to Glenna Rogers Chapman for 51 years and was blessed with two children. He was a proud employee of NC state government as a loss control/safety consultant, and a retired volunteer firefighter, serving approximately 40 years at both New Hope Fire Department and Durham Highway Fire Departments in Raleigh. He never met a stranger and was the friendliest person you would ever meet. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children; Michael (Sarah) Chapman of Wake Forest, NC and Amy (Jeff) Braun of Raleigh, NC; his wife, Glenna Chapman of Raleigh, NC; and five grandchildren, Avery, Ethan, Matthew, Lillian, and Simon. A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date due to the pandemic.

I worked with Mike in OSP (Office of State Personnel). He was always willing to help and do whatever was needed to get the job done; always with a "smile". He was a very caring and kind person. So sorry to hear of his passing.

I was very young when Mike and Glenna married but I saw a love like my mama and daddy had. We loved every visit and knew when he left all our smoke and co detectors were in top notch condition!! There were always hugs and kisses and the promise of another visit. We, of course, all feel we got shorted there. Life throws us curve balls.. You are my North Carolina Family . I love and miss you and I would give anything for one more hug and kiss from Mike with the promise of another visit. Love, all your family in Georgia.
