Mrs. Loretta “Nancy” Anderson, 83, of Durham, NC passed away on November 23, 2024. She was the daughter of the late John and Harriett Mack. She was born on Aug 26, 1941, in Glens Falls, New York. She received her bachelor's degree from Metro State University (Denver, Co) and her Masters degree in Education from the University of Colorado (Boulder, Co).

Nancy was a reading specialist for over 20 years in the Aurora Public School System. She was passionate about helping children learn to love reading. Her work as a reading recovery teacher helped many children who had educationally fallen behind, catch up to grade level and succeed in school. She also served as a mentor teacher helping other teachers learn to effectively teach reading at the elementary school level. In her retirement she continued to help children volunteering at Children’s Hospital Colorado and in the Durham Public School System.

Nancy enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life including skiing, traveling, knitting, golfing, and cheering on the Denver Broncos! Her travels took her to many National Parks, across Europe, throughout the Caribbean, and to China. She was a life-long Catholic, most recently a member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Durham.

She was united in matrimony to James Anderson, they enjoyed 59 years of marriage full of adventures and love. Together they had two daughters Paige Wenzivsky and Wendy Schulz (Peter). The delights of her heart were her five grandchildren; Sarah, Matthew, Emily, Barrett, and Makennah. Nancy also leaves behind her beloved sister Suzann Bylund, and an extended family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A Memorial Service (Liturgy of the Word) will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Renaissance Funeral Home 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. Family and friends are invited to gather for refreshments immediately after the service.
