Obituary For Lilly Mae Craig

Mrs. Lilly Mae Craig, 93, of Raleigh, NC died on October 7, 2021. She was born on January 13, 1928 in Gastonia, NC. She attended public schools in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and graduated in 1946 from Western High School, Washington D.C. Lilly attended Spring Hill College, Mankato State College, and Florida Junior College.

She was united in matrimony to Howard W. Craig whose 21-year career in the U.S. Air Force provided opportunities to live and travel in many states and several countries. They were blessed with four children. Howard preceded her in death on July 27, 1998.

Lilly was always learning and sharing with those around her. She was an artist, seamstress, historian, musician and gardener. She earned her accreditation as a Master Gardener and Flower Show Judge. She shared her compassion for people through serving with Hospice and the Red Cross. She was passionate about the Lord and taught both children and adult Sunday school classes, served as church secretary, and church membership administrator. While in Okinawa she became the Girl Scout Director/Camp Director for Kadena Air Force Base. She treasured her opportunities to teach someone to read! She taught both children and adults.

Lilly was preceded in death by her son, James Craig; son-in-law, Monte Miles; brother Edward Kellner; sister-in-law Ann Kellner; and nephew, Michael Gannon.

Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Barbara Miles of Raleigh, NC; David Craig of New Hope, PA; Andrew Craig (Mary) of Marietta, GA; 8 Grandchildren: Christopher Miles (Tracy), Amanda Gunter (Reggie), Daniel Miles (Julie); Trevor Hufnagel, Matthew Hufnagel (Rorie Dean -mother); Justin Nuygen, Courtney Nuygen, Nathan Nuygen; 5 Great-grandchildren: Rebecca Gunter, Marissa Gunter; Ethan Miles, Caleb Miles, Zachary Miles; Collin Hufnagel, David Hufnagel; and devoted nieces, nephews and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC on Friday, October 22, 2021 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
