Obituary For Joan Lucille Richard

Mrs. Joan Lucille Richard, age 88, of Raleigh, NC (formerly of Stamford, CT and the Bronx, NY) passed away peacefully on April 16th surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late William Ferrarini and Letitia Robinson Ferrarini. Joan was born on December 13, 1932 in the Bronx, NY. She was a graduate of Aquinas High School, Bronx, NY. Joan was married to Alfred T. Richard, May 17, 1958. Al preceded Joan in death, October 5, 2000.

Joan loved baseball and was an avid fan of the New York Mets. She stuck with them and always had hope and the beginning of every season. Over the years, Joan also enjoyed bingo and gambling with her sister; Atlantic City was a favored destination. Joan was not a fan of flying, but enjoyed road trips with her friends and family.

Joan was a natural-born caregiver. She cared for her father after her mother’s death, and again later in his life as he approached his 97th and last year. She cared for her husband in his last years of life. She and her sister cared for each other over the last 20 years or so until Eileen passed.

Joan was preceded in death by her son, James; her brother, Warren; and her sister, Eileen. Joan’s life will forever be cherished in the lives of her daughter, Eileen Taht (Bill) of Raleigh, NC; her granddaughter, Shannon Richard of Raleigh, NC; nieces Cathy Ann Monahan (Philip), Selden, NY, and Karen Cusick Campbell (Greg) of Southport, NC; nephew Robert ‘Bobby’ Cusick (Susan Pentangelo) of Norwalk, CT; and a host of additional caring nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins throughout the country.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 21st at 3:30 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC 27613. The service can be viewed by clicking this link: Joan Richard Funeral Liturgy

Due to covid restrictions, additional flowers are not allowed at the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Transitions LifeCare Hospice center in Raleigh, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Also, due to covid restrictions, there will not be a reception following the service.
