Obituary For Colin Sears Obenchain

Colin “Obie” Sears Obenchain, 100, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2020. He was born in Chester, PA on September 6, 1919 to Colin Stokes Obenchain and Elsie Mae Sears Obenchain.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII with an honorable discharge, and again during the Korean War with an honorable discharge.

He attended Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, PA, graduating with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. His working career was in the oil and gas industry with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) as an Engineer in the mining and refinery divisions.

During his retirement years, Obie enjoyed his favorite hobby of building and restoring furniture in his woodworking shop. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, making custom fishing rods for family and friends, and traveling with his wife, Mary.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Obenchain; children John (Beverly) Obenchain, Karen (Alan) Santala, Phillip (Brenda) Peak; grandchildren Stephanie (Matthew) Belvin, David Peak, Christopher (Jennifer) Obenchain, Kathleen Obenchain; and great-grandchildren Evelyn, Jack, and Molly.

A private service will be held for family at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or ASPCA of Wake County.

    I knew Obie when he lived in Washington and attended St. Peters Episcopal Church. What a fine person! My sincere sympathy goes out to his family. Susan Smith Basnight
